The Borg Invasion of 2381 was the historic attempt by the Borg Collective to completely exterminate the United Federation of Planets, Klingon Empire, and other allied worlds in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants and to subjugate the remaining worlds in local space. It ended with the Collective being dismantled and subsequently absorbed into the Caeliar gestalt.


The invasion left dozens of worlds in utter ruin, decimating much of known space. As a result of the invasion, upwards of 40% of the Federation Starfleet was destroyed and over 63 billion citizens of the United Federation of Planets, Klingon Empire, Romulan Star Empire, Imperial Romulan State, and non-aligned worlds were killed.

The year is now 2387. The Federation is starting to get back on its feet; but, strange and mysterious occurrences are destabilizing the galaxy's battle-weary Allies even further. In the Federation, efforts to replenish diminished resources and give succor to millions of evacuees are thwarted at every turn. On the borders of the battered Klingon Empire, the devious Kinshaya sense weakness—and opportunity. In Romulan space, the already-fractured empire is dangerously close to civil war.


As events undermining the Federations' attempts to heal become increasingly widespread, Federation President Nanietta Bacco perceives a pattern in the seeming randomness. Fearing that the members of the Typhon Pact are beginning to actively move against the Federation, she places Admiral Talious Jax , Starfleet Mission Operations on Deep Space 5. Using Deep Space 5 as his base of operations, Jax is to keep a Federation presence in the Typhon Expanse as it is imperative to find out what is going on inside the Expanse and what the Typhon Pact has up their collective sleeves.

The USS Marathon is to proceed from Deep Space 5 to the planet, Jenefra , located deep inside the Typhon Expanse.


There they are to use any and all means at their disposal to defuse the volatile situation brewing between the Jenefrans and the Cat People in order to stabilize the Federation Trading Outpost operated by the Jenefran Government.
